Tungsten Crucible Orders: Questions to Settle Early

Tungsten crucibles are often requested for vacuum furnaces, laboratory melting, high-temperature holding and special material processing. The part may look like a simple cup, but an accurate quotation depends on more than outside diameter and height. In recent customer communication, we have found that the most useful inquiries are the ones that settle several practical questions before the order is discussed in detail.

The first question is dimensional: what is the outside diameter, inside diameter, total height, wall thickness and bottom thickness? Bottom thickness is sometimes missed, but it affects both weight and machining time. If the crucible needs a lid, groove, shoulder, flange, threaded area or special bottom shape, a drawing is strongly preferred. A hand sketch is better than no drawing, but a dimensioned drawing is still the most reliable way to avoid misunderstanding.

The second question is the furnace environment. Tungsten performs well in suitable vacuum or protective atmospheres, but it should not be treated as a universal high-temperature material in every condition. Buyers should confirm operating temperature, atmosphere, heating cycle and the material that will be placed inside the crucible. This does not replace the customer's own process validation, but it helps the supplier understand whether there are obvious compatibility concerns.

The third question is packing. Tungsten is dense, so even a small crucible can be heavier than a buyer expects. For export orders, each piece should be protected against impact, edge damage and unnecessary movement inside the carton or wooden case. If the crucible surface is machined or polished, soft separation between pieces is recommended.

Shaanxi Changlong Jiuzhou Metal Technology Co., Ltd. supplies tungsten crucibles and other refractory metal products including molybdenum, tantalum and niobium parts. Customers can send drawings, target quantity and application notes for review. Our team will check the size, estimate production feasibility and prepare a quotation based on the confirmed specification rather than a rough guess.

Lead time is also linked to clarity. If a buyer confirms only the outer size, production may still need to pause later for wall thickness, bottom design or surface questions. Sending these details at the beginning does not make the inquiry more complicated; it makes the response faster and more useful. For repeat furnace users, keeping a standard drawing file for each crucible design is often the simplest way to reduce purchasing delays.
